Breeding for the future

The combination of modern plant breeding with biotechnology will be one of the key technologies of the present century. With its activities in the field of biotechnology and genetic engineering, SAATEN-UNION has picked the course for a successful future.  

More than 40 crops are treated on more than 20 breeding stations and over 100 testing sites in and outside Germany. The range includes actually about 200 registered varieties.

The 21st century – the century of plant breeding
Many experts see the 21st century as the century of biology. Plant breeding will become increasingly important for pro gress in biological technology. In fact plant breeding, together with biotechnology and genetic engineering will become one of the key technologies for the century.

The latest technology
In 1984 the member companies of SAATEN-UNION formed SAATEN-UNION-Resistenzlabor GmbH. Its primary goal is joint Research and Development using the latest biotechnology and genetic engineering techniques. The most important function of this biotechnology laboratory is supporting the breeders of SAATEN–UNION in developing successful varieties.
