The future is hybrid
Hybrids of winter and spring oilseed rape are available and bring a lot of agronomic and economic benefits to the farmers in oilseed rape growing areas. The vitality of hybrids under harsh conditions like suboptimal seedbed preparation, strong, long and cold winters as well as drought stress has been already proven and built up their widely known reputation.
Welcome to SAATEN-UNION!
Among German plant breeders and breeder organisations SAATEN-UNION is the only company to supply a comprehensive range of varieties from nearly all agricultural species. With experience of a wide range of areas, this marketing organisation, which is Germany’s market leader, now operates throughout Europe in nearly all agricultural crops.
SAATEN-UNION becomes more International
In 2007 for the first time, SAATEN-UNION GmbH’s export sales will exceed our turnover in the German seed market. If the sales of SAATEN-UNION foreign subsidiaries are included, this “transition” happened almost two years ago.
Royalty for Farm-Saved-Seed (FSS)
The achievements of classical cereal breeding by private breeding companies have shown a remarkable success during the last decades. But the public recognition and the even the respect at the farmers’ level have been limited.
Cultivation management for ergot reduction in hybrid rye
As external pollinator, rye is rather endangered by the affliction with ergot, although resistance qualities will surely be improved within the next few years. In the meantime, here are a couple of advices to reduce the ergot-risk to a minimum.
All-Round varieties will conquer Europe
The European and the international malting barley markets are more and more signed by concentration of the malting and brewing industry. In the future only some of the malters and the brewers will regulate the market.
Goals in Triticale Breeding
The enormous and rapid expansion of triticale cultivation is having consequences: breeders may intensify their breeding efforts and select more strictly. A larger number of varieties with optimized adaptation and more differentiated profiles will result. Future varieties will become more diversified in their characters such as the falling number or sprouting resistance.
Silage-maize for cattle fattening: Everything depends on the starch!
For cattle fattening maize silages are needed, that allow high and stable weight gain with a low pellet input. Hence, those silages must possess a high energetic fodder value and a good flavour. How can this type of silage be produced? You will find a description in the following article.
